Wii U Breaks Records, Sells 400,000 Units in One Week
Hardware maker Nintendo has confirmed that its Wii U home console has managed to sell more than 400,000 units during launch week on the United States market, which is an impressive number given the skepticism that greeted its launch.
Reggie Fils-Aime, the president of Nintendo of America, revealed the number and stated, “Wii U is essentially sold out of retail. Retailers are also doing their best to get the product to store shelves. But as soon as product hits retail, they’re selling out immediately.”
The Wii U has managed to perform better than the original Wii, which managed about 300,000 in sales during its launch week.
It seems that Black Friday was a big driver of sales for the Wii U and Nintendo is doing its best to have enough stock available for the coming European and Japanese launches for the new gaming platform.
