Google Chrome Continues to Distance Itself from IE, Firefox Stops the Bleeding in October

Google Chrome continues to be the top browser in the world, distancing itself even further from Microsoft's Internet Explorer. But it's Firefox that had the best month – it only managed to lose a very small percentage of its market share. It's still safely in third place though.

The latest StatCounter data shows that Chrome is reaching new heights, conquering 34.77 percent of the global browser market. That's up from 34.21 percent; not a huge uptake, but still notable.

Comparatively, IE went from 32.7 percent in September to just 32.08 percent last month. It remains to be seen whether IE10 can change that, but given how reluctant people are to switch to Windows 8, it probably won't happen any time soon.

Firefox, meanwhile, has managed to stop the decline, finally, though it's too early to call it a trend. Firefox ended October with 22.32 percent of the browser market, down from 22.4 percent, a statistically meaningless change.

DataCleaner 3.0.3 Improves Web Application

Gmail Officially Overtakes Hotmail and Yahoo Mail, but Only Because They Lost Users

The battle for email may seem unfashionable, but webmail clients still attract huge number of users. The three big providers, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, are battling it out and have been doing so for years.

Google is the upstart, if you can call it that, and though it's taken almost a decade, Gmail is slowly climbing up the ranks.

It is now officially the world's biggest email provider, based on data other than from Google itself.

ComScore, who looks at desktop usage only, now shows that Gmail has overtaken Microsoft's Hotmail to become the biggest email service.

The data for October shows Gmail with 287.9 million unique visitors. Hotmail only managed to get 286.2 million, a small gap but enough for Gmail to dethrone it.

It's unclear whether outlook.com numbers were added, Microsoft recently unveiled the new domain and enabled Hotmail and Windows Live Mail users to "upgrade" to the new domain and app.

In the meantime, Yahoo Mail keeps on slipping, it's down to just 281.7 million at this point. These are all worldwide numbers.

Yahoo is still in the lead in the US with 76.7 million, compared to Gmail's 69.1 million and Hotmail's 35.5 million.

Google had already crowned itself the biggest back in summer when it said it had 425 million users.

But comScore numbers at the time showed that it had significantly fewer than that and, what' ;s more, that it was still behind both Hotmail and Yahoo Mail.

Since then, all leading email providers lost users, but Gmail the least. Hotmail went from 325 million users in May, Yahoo Mail had 298 million and Gmail 289 million at the time.

Hotmail and Yahoo Mail lost the most users, leading to the situation we have now where Gmail is finally and officially the biggest.

iOS Concept Proposes Resizable Screen Icons

The looks of Apple’s iOS platform, the one that powers the iPhone, iPad and iPod devices out there, has been long seen as the base of modern smartphone interfaces, at least from Apple’s perspective.

However, other mobile operating systems out there have come up with new looks to set themselves apart from iOS, including resizable icons, widgets and live tiles.

Microsoft has packed its Windows Phone platform with a Tile-based interface and provides users with the possibility to set the size they wa nt for the tiles they use the most.

Google’s Android platform has a nice range of widgets available for people, and also provides them with the option to resize them, especially in the latest flavor of the OS, Android 4.2.

As for Apple’s iOS, little has changed in this regard until now, though some enthusiasts are already thinking of what the platform might look like with such changes inside.

Max Rudberg, a visual and user interface designer, has come up with a concept that proposes a new look for the iOS, one that sports both resizable icons and widgets. You can have a look at it in the video embedded below (via TheNextWeb).

Basically, it borrows elements from other mobile platforms, and combines them with the already popular iOS looks in an original manner.

“Inspired by the more living home screens of Windows Phone and Android, this concept video shows how the iOS home screen could become more,” the designer notes.

“In this concept, an app icon can be resized from 1×1 to 2×2 or 4×2. The increased size can house widget like functionality and provide easy access to core features of that particular app.”

With the new UI, users would be able to easily expand the Settings icon into a widget and bring various options to the front, such as the brightness slider or toggles for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Personal Hotspot and Do Not Disturb.

iOS already comes with a wide range of highly appealing features, yet the designer believes that novelty as that included in this concept could make it even better than it already is.

Google Docs Can Now Be Embedded on Google+

Google is making it a bit easier to share stuff from Google Drive with friends, fans and colleagues by adding a "share on Google+" option.

If you use Google+ and if the people you're trying to share with also use Google+, a couple of big "ifs," the new method could come in handy, compared to the alternative, sharing a link via email or IM.

[On Google+] "you can also share the stuff you create and store in Google Drive, and people will be able to flip through presentations, open PDFs, play videos and more, directly in the Google+ stream," Google explained.

You'll now notice a Google+ button in the share dialog for any document or file, next to the existing Gmail, Facebook and Twitter ones.

This button will create a new post on your Google+ profile that you can share publicly, with certain circles or with specific people from your circles.

Alternatively, pasting the share link in a new Google+ post achieves the same thing, whatever you share, docs, presentations, PDF files, will be included in the post and people will be able to view them right then and there.

Over 50 Carriers Already Testing BlackBerry 10 Devices, RIM Confirms

BlackBerry 10, the next-generation mobile operating system coming from Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion, is already being tested by over 50 carriers around the world, the company confirmed on Wednesday.

The handset vendor is determined to make the first devices running under the new platform available for purchase in the first quarter of the next year, and their availability through carriers might be a key factor in their success.

In a recent interview with Cnet, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins confirme d that the company had already discussed the availability of BlackBerry 10 devices with wireless carriers worldwide, and that they have started testing them.

“I'm very pleased to confirm that we have passed a critical milestone in the development of our brand new mobile computing platform, BlackBerry 10,” he said.

“In the last week, BlackBerry 10 achieved Lab Entry with more than 50 carriers -- a key step in our preparedness for the launch of BlackBerry 10 in the first quarter of 2013.”

Some of the latest reports on RIM’s ability to deliver the new platform suggested that, while made official in the beginning of the next year, the first BlackBerry 10 devices might not arrive on shelves before March 2013.

Thorsten Heins’ statement does not confirm or deny the rumor but, with March being the last month in the first quarter of the year, chances are that it might pan out.

Moving forth, the company will get in touch with more operators around the world to provide them with BlackBerry 10 handsets for testing purposes, a move that is part of its commitment to the new OS flavor.

“We made this commitment during our recent results conference call and we have delivered. This process will continue in the coming months as more carriers around the world formally evaluate the devices and our brand new software,” Heins continued.

At the moment, RIM is focused on building a strong ecosystem for the BlackBerry platform, which is starting to see challenges not only from Android and iOS, the current market leaders, but also from Microsoft’s mobile platform, which has just arrived in a new version, namely Windows Phone 8.

Tim Tebows New Girlfriend Is Camilla Belle

Famous and famously virgin American football quarterback Tim Tebow has found a new lady love or, as some media outlets are calling her, a new temptation. He and Camilla Belle were photographed out on a date just a few hours ago.

TMZ has the photo, as well as a possible indication that the romance might actually go way back to May, when they both attended the Met Ball.

As it happens, no one paid attention to them at the time, which explains the complete absence of rumors of dating.

“Tim Te bow has finally scored – problem is, it's off the field – because TMZ got the first pic showing Tim with his hot new girlfriend/actress, who is no stranger to famous virgins,” TMZ reports.

“Tim and Camilla Belle showed up at Latitude 30 in Jacksonville, Florida Tuesday night, where they bowled and partied,” the same media outlet writes.

Indeed, Camilla is no stranger to dating “pure” male stars. Though she was, at one point, linked in the press to every hot guy around, including Robert Pattinson, she famously dated Joe Jonas in 2009.

“Tim and Camilla were overly affectionate throughout the evening, holding hands and touching. Camilla's rep didn't get back to us, but sources connected with Camilla tell us they are definitely an item,” TMZ further notes.

As mentioned above, there are some indications that Tim and Camilla have been dating since May, but c hose to put off going public with the romance until now, for one reason or another.

They were photographed together (but not as a couple) at the “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 7, 2012 in New York City, which could be either a coincidence or early prove of a budding romance.
