Black Ops 2, the most recent installment in the Call of Duty series, has managed to get over the 1 billion dollar (764.7 million Euro) mark in 15 Days, which exceeds the performance seen by other high profile entertainment properties launched during 2012.
To emphasize the impact of the franchise he adds, “Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for Harry Potter and Star Wars, the two most successful movie franchises of all time.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has also performed better than the Avatar James Cameron movie launched in 2009, which needed 17 days in order to get over the same amount in ticket sales.
Activision Blizzard also says that players have managed to play online game modes for more than 150 million hours on Xbox Live from Microsoft and the PSN from Sony.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was released simultaneously worldwide on November 13 for the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
Since then the development team at Treyarch has released patches for the game in order to fix a number of issues, most of them linked to the multiplayer side of the game.
The most recent one dealt with the leaderboards, making sure that the true performance of the player is reflected in his stats.
More content for Black Ops 2 will be offered in the coming months using the Elite service on all platforms.
