Cambridge University Students Set Out to Find Whether Screams Are Heard in Space

When the first “Alien” movie came out, it was promoted with the tagline “In space, no one can hear you scream.” Not even today do we know whether that’s 100 percent true or not.

Consequently, a group of students from Cambridge University have set out to learn whether screams can really be heard in space, an idea that, they boast, not even the guys at NASA have thought of.

Screams will be played back on an Android smartphone, which will be loaded on a nanosatellite sent on Earth’s orbit this December.

Everyone interested can upload on Youtube a video of themselves screaming; if selected, it will be one of the clips played back in space.

The students will be recording with a microphone the sounds coming from the Android device and, this way, determine whether that famous tagline from “Alien” was accurate or not.

If your dream was ever to have your screams heard (to what extent, we will see) in space, now’s your chance to get involved.
