Notebook Makers Decide Not to Sell Many Windows RT Tablets

Up until the launch of Microsoft's new operating system and the long-awaited Surface tablet, notebook brands were planning to sell as many Windows RT slates of their own as possible.

It is reported that this is no longer the case. Despite the Surface having been launched a relatively short time ago, the fuss about it has decreased.

Dell, ASUS, Samsung and Lenovo estimate Windows RT-based tablet shipments of below 50,000 (for each). They are focusing on Windows 8 and Intel Clover Trail CPUs instead.

Sony, Toshiba and HP turned out to be even more blunt and decided not to release Windows RT tablets at all.

Nokia, previously partnered with Compal for a Windows RT release, has also decided to, if not cancel, at least postpone its own contribution.

With each passing day, it looks like Microsoft is becoming more Apple-like. Pretty soon, Surfac e may be the only Windows RT tablet to speak of.
