Never underestimate the power of trolling. 4Chan has come up with a hoax that nearly broke the hearts of millions of Justin Bieber fans, while also getting many to shave their head. Justin Bieber had been diagnosed with cancer, it said.

Apparently, ET Online and Justin Bieber himself might have played along with it, by confirming the cancer diagnosis on their respective Twitter feeds, MusicFeeds reports.

Those tweets have since been deleted.

#BaldForBieber instantly became trending on the social networking website, with fans rallying to show their support for Justin “at this difficult time”: since he was supposed to start chemo soon and would lose his hair as a result, fans thought they would best be by his side by shaving theirs off.

It was the least they could do.

As it turn out, it was just a hoax.
