Mozilla Asks Add-on Developers What They Want to See in Mobile Firefox
Mozilla is focusing on mobile quite a lot these days. Firefox for Android is gaining steam and Firefox OS is coming soon. Mozilla is right to want to expand into the mobile landscape and it's trying to take as much of the desktop Firefox along, but that's not always possible.
Add-ons, one of the key features of Firefox, which was adopted by every other browser out there, are far less popular on mobile.
Granted, people are even more reluctant to install add-ons and extensions that may slow down their browsing even more.
But the selection isn't that great either. That's partly because developers are taking their sweet time migrating to the mobile platform and would rather build native apps.
But it's also because the add-on APIs in Firefox leave somewhat to be desired. That's especially true now that Firefox has switched to using the n ative UI APIs which imposed even more limits on developers. So Mozilla wants to know what are the APIs that developers are missing on mobile.
